Proud Past Pupil Andrew McNamara Appointed Deputy Principal Coláiste Mhuire, Askeaton

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board has announced the appointment of Andrew McNamara as the new Deputy Principal of Coláiste Mhuire, Askeaton, County Limerick. Andrew is a past pupil of the Community College which is under the patronage of the ETB. He brings over 18 years of experience to the role, having demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education and the development of young minds.

Welcoming the announcement recently, outgoing Chief Executive of Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, George O’Callaghan, said: “I would like to congratulate Andrew on his appointment as Deputy Principal. Coláiste Mhuire, Askeaton has a proud tradition of providing excellent second level education in the West Limerick area and an exemplary record of involvement in school self-evaluation and improvement initiatives. We wish Andrew the very best in his new role.”

A graduate of the University of Limerick, Andrew holds a Bachelor of Technology degree with concurrent Education in Materials and Construction Technology. He furthered his academic skills at NUI Maynooth, where he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Education Leadership and Management in 2013.

Andrew began his teaching career in 2006 at Tarbert Comprehensive School. He was appointed an Assistant Principal in 2013 where he took on responsibilities for Information and Communication Technology, E-Learning and Curriculum Development. His leadership skills and dedication to enhancing educational experiences led to his appointment as a Deputy Principal at Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk in 2020 where he played a crucial role in shaping curriculum and assessment processes.

Speaking about his appointment, Andrew says he is deeply honoured to be returning to his alma mater in a leadership capacity: “While my education and career journey took me to North Kerry and Cork, I have remained firmly rooted in the community that Coláiste Mhuire, Askeaton serves. Being appointed to a leadership role in any school is a privileged position, but to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading at a school I attended and that ignited my passion for learning, is the greatest honour. It is heartening to see the commitment of Limerick and Clare ETB to our community through the continuous development of a modern campus. Alongside our Principal, Morgan Heaphy, our talented and vibrant staff, committed parents, and supportive community, I look forward to carrying on the tradition of educational excellence in the community I continue to live in and now have the honour of serving.”
