Creativity and celebration took centre stage at Glór Theatre in Ennis last Monday, 23rd June, as learners, families, tutors and friends gathered for the launch of Simply Said 2025. This is the 36th issue of the annual book written by Core Skills learners at Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s College of Further Education and Training.
More than just a book launch, the evening offered an inspiring glimpse into the power of adult learning, with Simply Said once again providing a platform for adults across County Clare to share their memories, hopes and dreams through stories, poems or prose. This year’s collection includes writing from places in Clare where Core Skills learners have classes, including Ennis, Ennistymon, Miltown Malbay, Kilrush, Shannon, Scariff, Lisdoonvarna, Ballyvaughan, Bodyke, Killaloe and Bunratty.
Guests were welcomed with live music in the foyer from Cathal Moloney, while displays showcased stained glass, clay work, sewing, embroidery and other artwork. The floral-themed cover, created by learners in Lisdoonvarna’s Visual Art Level 1 QQI class and arranged by tutor Mary Khalil, featured proudly alongside copies of the publication.
Inside the theatre, around 250 guests were welcomed by Kerry O’Sullivan, Adult Literacy Organiser Lead with Core Skills. She praised the effort it takes to write and share a story, and acknowledged learners who achieved certification over the year. A slideshow gave a glimpse into learner activity across the county.
Kerry then introduced Bernadette Cullen, Chief Executive of Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, who officially launched Simply Said 2025. Speaking about the value of quality learning opportunities and the importance of recognising learner journeys she said:
“These stories show the real impact of learning on people’s lives. Whether someone’s improving their English, building confidence, or just discovering the joy of writing, it all matters. What we’re seeing here tonight is the heart of Further Education in action. None of this would be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff to building relationships that support learners on their educational journey.”

Tom Kent, Regional Literacy Coordinator with two learners Hannah Sobczak and Ediana Cesario Martins who read for the audience at the Simply Said 2025 lauch at Glór, Ennis.
A highlight of the evening was hearing learners reading their own contributions to the book on stage. Ediana spoke about her learning journey, saying:
“I think this year I have improved a lot with writing and doing tests. Coming to classes has helped me a lot. I’m so glad to have the teacher to help me.”
Fellow learner Serhii, added: “It was very important for me to break the language barrier, with language you can open doors.”
The evening also featured music from Limerick and Clare ETB staff, including a moving performance of Spancil Hill, and an elegant ballroom dance display by learners from Ennis.
Kerry O’Sullivan closed the event by thanking staff and learners for their work and encouraging everyone to continue their learning journey in the autumn.
The night ended with a relaxed tea, coffee and cake reception in the foyer, where guests chatted and celebrated.
