Talk on the pedagogy of Paulo Freire for Lifelong Learning Festival

As part of this year’s Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival, LCETB teacher and adult educator Alex McKillican will be giving a talk on his work and research in adult literacy education. Alex is going to present a discussion based on his current publication Existentialist Theory in the Pedagogy of Paulo Freire, the Adult Learner Journal: The Irish Journal of Adult and Community Education: Aontas, Dublin.

The venue for the talk is the Captain’s Room, the Hunt Museum, Friday 12th of April at 3pm.

This talk is based on the educational theory of Paulo Freire. Freire’s theory is most often used to espouse socio-economic and functional ideas around adult learning, particularly adult literacy education. However, this talk examines other aspects of Freire’s theory. These aspects are drawn out to highlight the metaphysical elements in Freire’s theory and how this understanding could be used to develop policy and practice in this area of education in Ireland. This event will be of interest to anyone who works in Adult and Further Education and who has a belief in the deeply transformative effects of education in the public and private life of both learners and educators.
