Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board today confirmed the date and venue of an information evening for prospective parents of pupils of the new Community College for the South West area of Limerick City. This follows last week’s announcement by the Minister for Education and Skills that LCETB is to be patron of the new Limerick City & Environs (South-West) post-primary school.
Parents living in the Mungret, Dooradoyle and Raheen school planning area are invited to the information evening which will be held at the South Court Hotel, Raheen, on Thursday 24th November at 8pm. The event will be attended by LCETB Chief Executive, George O’Callaghan, and LCETB Education Officer, Bernadette Cullen. Commenting ahead of the information evening, George O’Callaghan said: “LCETB looks forward to working with the local community in establishing the new school.”
The new Community College is scheduled to open to receive First Year students in September 2017. When completed, it will cater for up to 600 pupils. It will be a multi-denominational, co-educational, English-medium Community College. The school will open in temporary accommodation. LCETB is working closely with the Department of Education and Skills in securing the temporary accommodation and ensuring that it will be in place for September 2017.
The new school will be a non-designated Community College. LCETB is already Patron to a number of Community Colleges in Limerick City and environs including: Coláiste Ciaráin, Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh, Castletroy College and Thomond Community College.
