Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board community colleges continue to inspire and innovate; with exciting news this week for Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh in Limerick as it was recognised once again as an Apple Distinguished School. This is the third time in a row the school has received this honour, thanks to its dedicated educators, students, and forward-thinking school community with their steadfast commitment to innovative teaching and learning.
The school was selected for the distinction based on its commitment to continuous innovation in education to create exemplary learning practices. Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh is an All-Irish co-educational community college where all subjects are taught through the medium of Irish. It is an inclusive and modern school with a strong emphasis on creativity; innovation and technology is a central theme of its teaching and learning environment.
Speaking about the latest award, Principal Kevin Ó Raghallaigh, said: “In Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh we aim to motivate students to lead, learn, and strive for success in a constantly changing world. In order to do this we believe that our students need to combine skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving to ensure that they are innovating, challenging and continuously improving themselves as well as society and their broader environment. Technology, in our school, is the foundation and the scaffold that supports and empowers our students to push any boundary that they may face with a sense of resilience and pride in themselves and their school community.” He continued: “This achievement is a testament to the collective effort that goes into creating a digitally-immersive and transformative educational environment. It’s not just about using Apple technology; it’s about how we leverage it to inspire, engage, and empower our students.”
He went on to explain that the Digital Learning Team at Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh have been instrumental in shaping the school’s technological landscape: “Their creativity, passion, and hard work have made this recognition possible. They have harnessed the power of these tools to bring learning to life, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration among our students. Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh’s journey to becoming an Apple Distinguished School for the third time exemplifies their commitment to providing students with a world-class education and continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible in education, preparing our students for a future filled with opportunities.”
