Students from across the Mid-West gathered at Mungret Community College in Limerick this week for the launch of the Junior Health Sciences Academy Early Careers Event 2025.
Now in its fourth year, the Early Careers Event is organised by the University of Limerick Health Sciences Academy, in partnership with the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, the HSE Mid-West, and the Limerick Education Support Centre. It provides Transition Year, Fifth Year and Leaving Certificate students with an opportunity to explore a wide range of future careers in healthcare.
The initiative continues to grow in popularity among post-primary schools, with last year’s event attracting an impressive audience of more than 17,000 students from across Ireland.

For 2025, the programme has expanded to a series of interactive online webinars, running via Zoom from 9.15am to 10.30am on Tuesday, 11 November, and again on Thursday, 13 November 2025.
Designed to inspire students interested in the world of health and wellbeing, the series will feature contributions from healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines, as well as third-level students currently studying health sciences at UL. Speakers will share their career journeys, describe their daily work in clinical and community settings, and offer advice on subject choices and pathways into healthcare.
The Junior Health Sciences Academy forms part of the broader Health Sciences Academy partnership between the University of Limerick, UL Hospitals Group, and HSE Mid West Community Healthcare. The initiative focuses on nurturing early career development, health promotion, and leadership among young people considering a future in health.
