On the 25th May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect. In Ireland GDPR has been given legislative effect in the new Data Protection Act 2018. To fulfil its statutory obligations Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board gathers, stores and processes large amounts of data on a variety of data subjects. This would include students, learners, staff, third parties and members of the public.

Freedom of
Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2014 is designed to give the public the right of access to records held by public bodies, to the greatest extent possible that is consistent with the public interest and the right to privacy. FOI bodies must give you an explanation if you are not given what you asked for and the decision must normally be made within 4 weeks.

Protected Disclosures

The Protected Disclosures Act 2014 came into effect on 15 July 2014. This Act provides a framework within which workers can raise concerns regarding potential wrongdoing that has come to their attention in the workplace in the knowledge that they can avail of significant and other protections if they are penalised by their employer or suffer any detriment for doing so. Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board has put in place a policy, which applies to all ETB workers including contractors, consultants, agency staff, former employees and interns/trainees.
