With September a significant month in terms of reopening society after a year and a half of COVID-19 restrictions, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board is offering learners a helping hand in planning for the future with an abundance of Further Education and Training courses this Autumn.
For learners in the region finding the right course is now easier than ever with hundreds of full-time and flexible part-time Further Education and Training pathways available at over 300 locations in Limerick and Clare. This means there is a campus within easy reach for over 25,000 learners who access FET courses in the region each year. The Autumn schedule is in line with the recent Government strategy to boost upskilling and reskilling opportunities for those affected by the pandemic. Learners now have the opportunity to prepare for employment, upskill while already employed or develop new skills or further studies.
Paul Patton, Director of Further Education and Training, says: “There is plenty of choice on offer from Apprenticeship and Traineeship to full and part-time FET courses which gives everyone the opportunity to find their own pathway to employment, career progression or life-skills.” Full-time courses include Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC), Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS), Hospitality Education and Training, Specific Skills Training, and Youth Education and Training. Part-time delivery meanwhile includes Core Skills (language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy), Vocational and Employee Skills Development, and Outdoor Education and Training.
The ETB’s Information Recruitment and Guidance Support Service will help learners choose the right pathway this Autumn. This specialist service is designed to assist people in making informed choices on education, training, career and employment opportunities as well as funding, grants and other supports. This FREE service is for anyone who is considering Further Education and Training up to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and is staffed by a professional and experienced team of Information Officers and Guidance Counsellors.
The authority promotes inclusion through its work in partnership with communities and learners from a diverse range of groups across the region including community groups, employers, youth initiatives, prison education, special education, and specific disadvantaged groups to provide a wide range of education and training options. In conjunction with community-partners across the region, the ETB offers hundreds of free courses in the heart of each local community. In line with COVID-19 restrictions, some courses may be delivered through a combination of online teaching and classroom-based learning at various campuses and community-partner locations. The ETB’s Active Inclusion Support Service also ensures that learners are given access to the supports they need to allow them to fully participate in their Further Education and Training course. The service assists with learning support, access to computers or technology, help with reading, writing, maths, study skills, computer skills or improving English language skills and access to a learner counselling service.
