Following on from it’s success last year, the Junior Health Sciences ‘Early Careers’ Event returns this March 1st and 2nd 2022. Last year over 1600 Transition Year and 5th Year students from across the Mid-West region tuned in to the careers webinar, which provides a fantastic insight for any student interested in a career in Healthcare. Once again, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s Schools Division worked with the Health Sciences Academy, a partnership between University of Limerick, the UL Hospitals Group and the HSE Mid-West Community Healthcare Organisation to promote the event throughout the Limerick, Tipperary and Clare network of schools.
A selection of students from these schools gathered at the Clinical Education and Research Centre (CERC) recently at UHL to help launch the webinar. The interactive event is perfect for students in Transition Year and 5th year who can’t visit hospitals or other clinical settings for work experience. The webinar is organised by the Health Sciences Academy with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and Limerick Education Centre and students will hear from clinical staff from UL Hospitals Group and HSE Mid-West Community Healthcare, as well as academic staff and students from the health programmes at University of Limerick who will provide excellent workplace insights, guidance on subject choices and career opportunities. There will be plenty of information on courses like medicine, nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, occupational and speech and language therapy, paramedic studies to name but a few of more than 20 healthcare professions which will feature this year.
The virtual event will feature a combination of videos, interactive online discussions, questions and answers and panellist discussions. Special guests will include input from Spin SW broadcaster Louise Cantillon, Munster Rugby player Damian de Allende, Ireland hockey player Sarah Hackshaw, former Galway hurler Joe Canning and there will be ample opportunities for Q&As and engagement with other guests. All students are welcome, and registration is essential, at https://www.ul.ie/hsa/upcoming-events .
