Prize Winning Produce at Organic College, Dromcollogher

Students from An tIonad Glas, The Organic College in Dromcollogher won several prizes for their Organic vegetables at the local Summer Horticulture Shows. The Shows provide a great opportunity for the students to showcase the fruits of their hard work and they are delighted to gain recognition for their prize winning produce. The success is even sweeter this year considering it was a difficult year for growing from a weather perspective. The prizes include the following :

Charleville Show

The Brother Rice Perpetual Cup – Most Points in Horticulture Section

Newcastle West Flower Show

Ned Guiry Perpetual Trophy – Most Points in Vegetable Classes

William Begley Cup – Most Points in Show

Pat Hunt Trophy – Best Potato

Cappamore Show

Michael English Perpetual Trophy – 1st Prize Tray of Vegetables

 

Limerick Show

The Cushanahouna Perpetual Cup – Annual Flowers

The Drummond Perpetual Cup – Country Garden Vegetables

Ballymackeogh Perpetual Cup – Most Points in Flower Section

 

The “Show” success follows on from another success at the “Body & Soul” Festival in June where 1st Year students had a Vegetable Growing display where they gave information on Organic growing and sustainable living. The display was very popular with the Festival goers.

All these events serve to showcase the work of the students at the College and greatly enhance the learning experience.

The “Prize Winning” Veg. is available from the Market Stall in Dromcollogher on Fridays.
