Reimagining 1916 – a project by students in St Anne’s Community College Killaloe will be the focus of an exhibition in Limericks Hunt Museum from 10th March to the 18th March. The launch will take place on Thursday 10th March from 2pm to 4pm.
This exciting project was conducted over a period of 16 weeks. TY and 4th year students were given the opportunity to be active participants in the Commemoration of 1916, and contribute to the body of research which currently exists from their unique perspective. The students have embraced this project and have maintained a strong sense of ownership throughout. It has been an organic process involving collaboration between the students, staff and the Curator Fiona Byrne. The project began in the Art Department and widened out to both the English and History Departments, involving a great deal of collaboration. Music , short drama pieces and poetry will be performed at the launch in the Captain’s Room.
This exhibition aims to promote an ongoing interest in history, through looking at the lives of ordinary citizens, as well as the key figures of the Easter Rising and putting the information in the context of students’ lives today.
