Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB) today confirmed the appointment of Liam O’Mahoney to the position of Principal of the new Community College (Limerick South-West). The new position will become effective on the 1st February 2017.
Mr O’Mahoney is currently Principal of St. John Bosco Community College, Kildysart, Co. Clare, where he has played a significant role in developing the school. Liam has 28 years teaching experience – initially in Tarbert Comprehensive and then in Castletroy College where he gained broad experience in school management as an Assistant Principal.
Commenting on the appointment, George O’Callaghan, LCETB Chief Executive, said: “I wish to congratulate Liam on his selection. We look forward to working closely with him and the local community in establishing the new Community College in 2017.”
Mr O’Mahoney, a graduate of NUI Maynooth, has an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree; Honours H. Dip.; Graduate Diploma in Educational Mentoring; Honours Certificate in Educational Leadership and Management and an Honours Masters of Education. He has a keen passion for sport, enjoying golf, running and walking. Mr O’Mahoney is also Chair of the Munster GAA Post Primary Schools Committee.
Welcoming his appointment, Liam O’Mahoney said: “I am really looking forward to working closely with the local Primary Schools and wider community in the Mungret, Raheen and Dooradoyle areas of Limerick. As a Limerick man, I am delighted to have this great opportunity to lead a new Community College. I hope it will give each student a chance to learn in a safe, happy, modern and challenging environment.”
LCETB was awarded patronage of the new Community College in November this year. The school is scheduled to open to receive First Year students in September 2017 and has a long-term projected enrolment of 600 students. It is a participant school of the Limerick Area Post-Primary Schools Common Application System (CAS). Completed Common Application Forms must be returned by 12.30pm on Monday, 16th January 2017.
