Lifelong learning and respect for people were central themes of this year’s address to graduates by LCFE Director, Pat Maunsell. He said: “Today, one has to be a lifelong learner. You must be good at learning. Recent research emphasizes the shift from skills for employment towards skills for ‘employability’. Skills such as good communication, interpersonal and ICT skills are crucial for success today because all jobs require them. Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later.

Respect all the people whom you meet in your travels. Have faith in people and see the good in them. Building solid relationships is important for both personal and professional success. Learn from your mistakes as well as your successes. The greatest learning occurs from our mistakes.” As Thomas Edison once said: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

The Further Education and Training landscape has greatly changed in recent times with the establishment of the ETB’s, SOLAS and the QQI and other related developments. LCFE is expanding and responding to these changes and to the needs of the market. We now have courses not only in our main campus in Mulgrave Street but in the Kilmallock Road Campus, in the Hospitality Training Centre, Roxboro, and also in our outreach centre in Cappamore.
